Gold
Remove gold jewellery when doing heavy work where it could get bumped or scratched. Avoid exposing gold to harsh chemicals, body lotions and perfumes to prevent discolouration over time. Clean in warm water with mild soap and polish with a polishing cloth. Do not use abrasives on gold. Alternatively, you can have your gold pieces professionally cleaned by a jeweller.
Silver
Silver is prone to tarnishing in high humidity. Friction prevents tarnishing so, wearing your silver jewellery often will lessen it. Avoid exposing silver to harsh chemicals, body lotions and perfumes to prevent discolouration over time. Clean in warm water and avoid using soap. Dry thoroughly and polish with a polishing cloth. Alternatively, you can have your silver pieces professionally cleaned by a jeweller.
Onyx
Onyx is a relatively hard stone however, it is very absorbent. Avoid exposing onyx to harsh chemicals, body lotions, perfumes and dark liquids to prevent discolouration over time. Avoid extreme high temperatures and low humidity. Remove onyx jewellery when doing heavy work where scratching could occur. Do not use abrasives or clean in an ultrasonic cleaner. Clean in warm water with mild soap and allow to air dry.
Opal
Opal is a soft stone, approximately as hard as glass. Remove opal pieces when doing heavy work where it could get bumped or cracked. Avoid exposing opal to harsh chemicals, body lotions and perfumes to prevent discolouration over time. Clean in warm water with mild soap. Do not use abrasives or clean in an unltrasonic cleaner.
Garnet
Garnet is a relatively hard stone however, it should be removed when doing heavy work where scratching could occur. Do not use abrasives. Clean in warm water with mild soap.
